Membership

There are now more than 600 members, the vast majority of whom own an eligible car or cars. Members who no longer drive vintage vehicles often retain membership, and there is a significant number looking for a suitable car or wishing to be associated with the Register. Further information and an application form to join the Register can be obtained from the Hon. Registrar, John Burnell, 187 Loughborough Road, Mountsorrel, Loughborough, LE12 7AR. Tel/Fax 01509 412289.

Membership Benefits

Members receive an A4 Circular every month and an A5 'glossy' Bulletin quarterly. The Circular contains information of immediate interest to members such as forthcoming events, technical hints, members' advertisments of cars and parts for sale or wanted, and announcements of new members. The Bulletin presents longer fully illustrated articles on Register events, restoration, historical research etc.

Other benefits include access to the Register database (containing details of every vintage Alvis produced) and the club archive of vintage Alvis material, and opportunities to participate in Register events such as workshop weekends and inter-register rallies.

Owners of 1931-1933 16.95 and 19.82 cars should check eligibility with the Register as many, especially 1932 and 1933 cars, belong to the new era of production and are strictly outside the scope of the Register, although their owners are very welcome to join!

The Inter-Register Club

Most one-make old car clubs are too small to warrant affiliation to the Motor Sports Association (MSA) and this precludes them from legally running competitive events on public roads. To overcome this problem several old car clubs (Alvis Register, Humber Register, STD Register, Austin 10 Driver's Club, The Riley Register, Amilcar, 750 A7, Pre War A7, BMW, Crossley, FIAT, Jowett and Singer) have formed the Inter-Register Club (IRC) which is affiliated to the MSA and permitted to run events on the public roads. Each member club organises one event (typically a treasure hunt, scatter rally or driving test) each year. The events are competitive but not car-breaking. In addition to prizes given for individual performances in each event there is an annual competiton for individual champion driver and navigator and team championships. All members of the Alvis Register are de facto members of the IRC and are entitled to compete in IRC events.
